The last verse is based on an evening in Sisseton when I could hear from my bed both the chimes of Grace Lutheran in Sisseton ringing the Lord's Prayer and my friend's drum group down the street, drumming and singing and praying....past, present, future sounds.
lyrics
we drive the same highway
but our lives travel different roads
let us share this stretch together
and see where it goes
under the same sky
Can I walk a mile in you shoes?
Can I rest on your front steps?
Can you teach me a new song?
For the healing of the land
Under the same sky
There is always something to celebrate
And always something to grieve
Broken hearts behind every door
We are yearning for healing and peace
Under the same sky
What do we really have in common?
Except our human hopes and dreams
And the way we miss our loved ones
The way tears feel upon our cheeks
Under the same sky
God bless the ears that listen
God bless the hands that heal
God bless the voices that our singing
God bless the hearts that still feel
Under the same sky
Come Eagle on the wing so holy
Come Cattle on a thousand hills
Come horses thunder in the valley
Come red tailed hawk and white tailed deer
Come children see it well with clear eyes
You are not the first and you will not be the last
Your treasure is this present moment
Between future that you make and the past
under the same sky
From my bed I hear the church bells ring the Lord’s prayer
And down the street I hear the heartbeats of the drum
And in their song the singers sing for power and healing
And I say Amen, let the future come….
under the same sky
