From a common valley
I weeped and wondered
as the fog dropped and settled in
the time was morning, felt much later
I had no memories to relate to this
the day was long deep and lonely
I tried to dodge the question as it came
if God is good then why the silence?
if God can heal then why this pain?
there's an old strange story
of a lover who shares the lonely lover
with his love in the common valley
shares her robes of sorrow and death
from a common valley I look to the hills
from the tops I know I'll never stand
come dear Jesus you are with me
from this valley I am held within your hands
there's an old strange story
of a lover's song a verse of mystery
of the savior who walks the mountain road
who cries my God why have you forsaken me
give me faith when I am faithless
give me hope in your promise that endures
give me love when I feel forsaken
give me peace when I come to leave this world
give me the old old strange story
of a lover whose love will know no end
give me the refuge and the shelter
lay me down, lift me up, and take me in
from a common I look to the hills
upon the tops I know I'll never stand
but come dear Jesus you are with me
from this valley I am held within your hands
from the vale of tears to bear me up in your loving hand
